Russia has finally responded to the sanctions that the Biden administration has issued.
In a retaliatory strike, Russia announced sanctions against more than a dozen high-profile Americans.
That list included Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton.
Take That
Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced that the sanctions were in response to this administration’s “extremely Russophobic policy.”
It further stated that that list of officials would start to grow and include other lawmakers, officials, business owners, and media members.
At this point, this is nothing more than a cheap headline grabber for Russia, but I would suspect more severe sanctions will be on the way soon enough.
Even though Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, were all on the list, Russia stated that it would not impact any negotiations.
The White House has, for the most part, laughed off the sanctions.
Russia can really start to hurt Europe by choking off the energy supply, but that is a measure that will also cost Russia significantly.
Additionally, Russia could ask China to shut down our supply chain, something that is already at risk with the recent lockdown of several major Chinese cities due to its zero-tolerance policy on COVID outbreaks.
Recently, a city of nine million people was shut down after a single-day total of fewer than 80 cases.
The last thing that Biden can afford is another supply chain crisis, so it will be very interesting to watch this all unfold over the next few days.
