Sanders Slams Buttigieg Over Flight Delays and Cancellations

It would appear as though the 2024 election season has started for potential Democrat candidates if Joe falls out.

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg are both considered possible candidates.

Sanders decided to hit Buttigieg on flight delays and cancelations, clearly a move to hurt Buttigieg’s profile in the eyes of voters.

What’s Up, Petey

Airlines have been a mess since the onset of COVID.

Virtually every airline in the country is short-staffed and there is no relief in sight.

With gas prices going through the roof, travel costs have risen considerably.

For travelers, this has meant significantly higher prices, as well as a ton of cancelations.

This weekend alone, reports stated that there could be anywhere from 1,500-2,000 canceled flights.

Sanders went right after Buttigieg for not doing anything to address the issue, stating, “All over this country, airline passengers are growing increasingly frustrated by the massive increase in flight delays, cancellations, and outrageously high prices they are forced to pay for tickets, checked bags and other fees.

“Thousands of flight disruptions have left passengers and crew members stranded at crowded airports from one end of the country to the other forcing them to miss weddings, funerals, and business meetings and ruining family vacations that have been planned for months in advance.”

He added, “During the pandemic, when air travel came to a near halt, U.S. taxpayers came to the rescue and gave $54 billion to the airline industry.

“The top eight airlines alone received nearly $50 billion in taxpayer assistance from the federal government.

“Given all of the generous taxpayer support that has been provided to the airline industry, all of us have a responsibility to make sure that passengers and crew members are treated with respect, not contempt.”

As that letter was being sent, pilots from two major airlines were picketing over excessive hours and low pay.

Something tells me that Petey will not be able to fix this anytime soon.
