Even though we have heard very little on the progress front regarding the massive spending bill Dems are trying to pass, Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.) dropped a bombshell this week.
Schumer must be working something out, as he has announced that he expects the reconciliation package to be on the Senate floor by December 13.
In order for this bill to get passed, Schumer will have to have Senators Manchin (D-W.V.) and Sinema (D-AZ) on his page, and he seems pretty confident he is there.
Great Meetings
While they have not been making headlines, Schumer and Manchin appear to have been hammering out the details.
Schumer stated, “We had a good meeting with Senator Manchin today.
“We mainly talked about climate issues, and we’re going to get this bill done with 50 Democrats before Christmas. That’s our goal.”
Schumer added, “I think we all know the situation we’re in.
“We all know that it would only take one Democrat to tank it.”
Those were pretty eye-opening comments by Schumer, especially considering the comments made by Manchin only a day earlier.
The West Virginia Democrat stated, “I think what we need to do is just really look at the bill, what we have right now, what came from the House and that’s what I’ve been doing.”
He added, “The different energy stuff is what we mostly talked about.
“Just basically looking at different things that we agree on and adjustments that need to be made.”
The one person we have not heard a peep from recently is Sinema.
It is unclear if Manchin is talking for both of them or if she has her own demands that will be worked out later or have already been worked out.
Schumer has officially put himself on the clock, so I guess we will all find out in less than two weeks.
