Senator Joe Manchin’s (D-W.V.) ears must be burning day and night right now.
After breaking the news that he would not be backing the Build Back Better plan on Sunday morning, the entire Democrat Party turned on him.
The latest being Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.).
We Don’t Need Him
Schumer stated that the debate of BBB has led to “deep discontent and frustration” within the party.
He blasted Manchin for not being able to come to an agreement to get the legislation passed.
After touting legislation and Biden judicial nominees already passed, Schumer then turned his focus to Manchin.
He stated, “That frustration was evident in the past week as nearly all of us were disappointed by the decision to delay floor consideration of the Build Back Better Act because Senator Manchin could not come to an agreement with the president.”
He continued, “We simply cannot give up.”
Schumer went on to say that Senators “should be aware that the Senate will, in fact, consider the Build Back Better Act, very early in the new year so that every Member of this body has the opportunity to make their position known on the Senate floor, not just on television.
“We are going to vote on a revised version of the House-passed Build Back Better Act—and we will keep voting on it until we get something done.”
Then, just as I predicted, Schumer turned his focus to Republicans, hinting that Democrats may decide to break the filibuster.
He stated, “If Senate Republicans continue to abuse the filibuster and prevent the body from considering this bill, the Senate will then consider changes to any rules which prevent us from debating and reaching final conclusion on important legislation.”
Schumer, of course, neglected to say how many times the Democrats have abused the filibuster during Trump’s time in office.
You do not have enough fingers and toes to count that.
My best guess here is that Dems will eventually change the legislation to meet Manchin’s demands.
There is no way they can let this legislation die, even if it is not 100 percent what they want.
As far as the filibuster goes, if the Democrats break that, they are being shortsighted because it will come back to haunt them in a big way after Republicans take Congress back over.
Do you think BBB will eventually pass? Do you think Democrats will break the filibuster to ram through voting legislation to try to hold power in 2022?
