Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) may be having just about as bad a week as Joe Biden.
Like House Speaker Pelosi (D-CA), Schumer decided to lock in a self-imposed deadline to get legislation on the Senate floor.
Like Pelosi, he failed to meet his own deadline, now he is being mocked on both sides of the aisle for it.
In politics, your word is all you have.
Sadly, today’s politicians will say just about anything they have to in order to get elected or to appease the masses.
Schumer set MLK Day as his deadline to put the voting rights legislation on the floor, but now he is making excuses as to why that won’t happen.
On Thursday, Schumer put the legislation off until at least Tuesday, stating, “Due to the circumstances regarding COVID and another potentially hazardous winter storm approaching the DC area this weekend, the Senate will adjourn tonight.”
In reality, Schumer doesn’t have the support for the bill, and he knows it.
Both Senators Manchin (D-W.V.) and Sinema (D-AZ) have vowed to hold firm and not break the filibuster, which is the only way Democrats can get this legislation passed.
Senator Ernst (R-IA) immediately hit Schumer…
.@SenSchumer can’t meet his own deadlines. If you can’t even run the Senate, what makes you think you can run America’s elections?

Senator Barrasso (R-WY) added, “Chuck Schumer’s failing leadership of the Senate has gone from bad to worse.
“He can’t stick to a simple timetable, and then promises votes he can’t win, and has to cancel or lose.
“Schumer must be running scared of AOC’s shadow to think that this is the kind of governing the American people are looking for.”
There are also quite a few rumblings on the left taking shots at all of Democrat leadership for failing to be able to get the entire party membership to rally behind this bill.
What we can count on, however, is for all kinds of divisive rhetoric to get thrown out by Democrats next week when they take this bill back up again.
Biden made it very clear in Georgia, you are either with us, or against us, no middle ground.
I think Biden and company are about to find out there are far more against than with.
