Schumer Told Abortion Legislation Will Be Blocked in Senate

There are two issues that have Democrats all charged up right now.

The first is obviously gun control, as Democrats want to take advantage of any momentum they can from the Uvalde, TX, mass shooting.

The second issue is abortion.

Not Happening, Chuckie

They may get somewhere on gun control, but Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.) just found out that just about any abortion bill he puts on the floor is destined for defeat.

Virtually every Republican in the Senate, 48 of them, have told Schumer that any bill he puts on the floor that undermines the Hyde Amendment will never get passed.

The Hyde Amendment prohibits federal spending on abortions save very specific exceptions.

Those exceptions are if the mother’s life is in danger, incest, and rape.

This, by the way, has been supported by Joe Biden his entire career up until 2019, when Biden stated that it was time to repeal the Hyde Amendment to lure in more progressive voters.

The only two Republicans that did not sign the letter were Senators Murkowski (R-AK) and Collins (R-ME).

Murkowski’s office refused to comment when contacted.

Senator Collins’ office, stated, “Senator Collins has consistently supported the Hyde Amendment to ban federal funding for abortions, and she believes that this prohibition should continue.”

Democrats have been targeting this amendment for some time, and they are getting far more aggressive with Joe Biden in office, but they need 60 votes to make it go away, and they still don’t have them, at least not yet.
