Texas Democrats are doing everything in their power to stop legislation from going through.
As the entire country knows by now, House Democrats fled the state so they would not have to vote on a piece of legislation they know they could not defeat.
Senate Democrats tried to block the bill by conducting a 15-hour filibuster, but it was all for naught.
Get to Work
Texas Senate Democrats did everything they could procedurally do to block the legislation.
But, after a 15-hour filibuster, the legislation was finally brought to a vote and passed.
With the voting bill finally getting through the Senate, it will now be passed to the House for further challenges.
The problem is not that Republicans do not have enough votes, because they do.
The problem is that Democrats are trying to block the quorum needed to get the bill on the floor for a vote.
Dozens of House Democrats fled the state to D.C. so a quorum could not be held.
The party has tried to hold them up as heroes, but they are cowards. It is as simple as that.
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has asked conservatives not to judge the Dems too harshly, as he noted he may now use the same move to block the reconciliation package.
I, for one, hope he does not because while I don’t want to see that bill passed, I would hate to see Graham provide the reason the Texas Democrats can no longer be called out on this front.
In an effort to bring the Texas Democrats back to session, Republican House Speaker Dade Phelan has signed warrants for the rogue Democrats to be arrested.
While they would not be sent to prison, they would be brought to chambers to allow the quorum to begin.
Phelan’s spokesperson, Enrique Marquez, stated, “Earlier today, the House Sergeant-at-Arms deputized members of Texas law enforcement to assist in the House’s efforts to compel a quorum.
“That process will begin in earnest immediately.”
