Senator McConnell Celebrates ATF Nomination Withdrawal

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) decided to take a bow this week.

After Biden decided to pull back his nomination for David Chipman to run the ATF, McConnell rubbed a little salt in the wound.

According to McConnell, it was his “advice” that was the big turning point.

Just Absurd

It was a bit presumptuous of Biden to even consider Chipman for the ATF in the first place.

There were several major negatives that hurt his case, including issues for those walking down the left side of the aisle.

In addition to Chipman being an anti-gun activist, there were some serious issues with his past.

Quite a few accusations had been made regarding the work environment under Chipman, which caused quite a bit of hesitancy among numerous Democrats.

These accusations included racially insensitive comments.

McConnell commented on this back in July, stating, “These were serious charges, not to be taken lightly, but the fact is that it was an anonymous claim in the press without any corroboration.

“That has changed. In a July 28 article at the independent news site The Reload, it was reported that multiple current and former ATF agents corroborated that they had heard that Mr. Chipman had made racially insensitive comments while serving in the Detroit field office of the agency.”

The fact is that Chipman did not have overwhelming support among Democrats because of these claims, so his nomination was likely to fail even with Harris holding the tie-breaking vote.

When Biden finally caved and pulled the name, McConnell took a celebratory bow on Twitter…

Now, Biden has to go back to square one to try to find someone that, at the very least, will get overwhelming Democrat support.
