Over the last few years, Serena Williams, one of the most dominant tennis players of our time, has had numerous medical issues.
I can still see her crumpled on the court at Wimbledon.
Well, that scene will not be repeating itself during the Australian Open.
Not Playing
When these major tournaments take place, we all want the best of the best to be playing.
Even with her string of injuries, Williams is still one of the best players in the world when she is on her game.
Her quest for another major will have to wait, however.
Williams pulled out of the Australian Open “following the advice” of her medical team.
In announcing the decision to her fans, she stated, “Following the advice of my medical team, I have decided to withdraw from this year’s Australian Open.
“While this is never an easy decision to make, I am not where I need to be physically to compete.”
All our love, @serenawilliams 💙

Williams currently has 23 Grand Slam singles tournament trophies on her mantle.
Her final tournament is probably sooner rather than later, but her fans are hoping she can stay healthy enough to win at least one more major.
However, based on the latest string of injuries, that may be a reach.
She is having a hard enough time getting healthy just to make the start of a tournament, let alone remaining healthy for a long run.
We can only hope the scene that played out in Wimbledon will not be the last image we have of Williams on the court of a major championship.
