Texas Republicans are finally taking action to have the Democrat House members that bailed brought back to the state.
Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan reportedly had an arrest warrant issued for Rep. Philip Cortez, one of the more than 50 Democrats that fled the state.
Cortez was targeted with the warrant because he had returned to Texas to open a dialogue, but he has since left the state and returned to DC.
Bring Him Back
Cortez claimed that he left because Republicans were not willing to negotiate in good faith.
This is pretty ironic considering what is happening in DC right now regarding infrastructure legislation.
After returning to DC, Cortez stated, “After discussions on improving House Bill 3 have not produced progress, I have rejoined my Democratic colleagues in Washington, D.C.
“I stand firm in my resolve to remain with the Democratic Caucus until the special session ends and to do whatever it takes to fight for the freedom to vote for all Texans.”
Speaker Phelan shot back that Cortez has “irrevocably broken” trust between Democrats and Republicans after this latest stunt.
He continued, “As a condition of being granted permission to temporarily leave the House floor, Rep. Cortez promised his House colleagues that he would return.
“Instead, he fled the state,” hence the issuance of the arrest warrant.
Democrats want it all these days… when they have the majority but not the numbers to pass legislation, they want to use reconciliation to ram the legislation through as a workaround to the filibuster.
When they don’t have the numbers, they think they can just take their ball and go home to block the legislation, thinking there will not be any repercussions.
These individuals are not heroes, they are cowards, and they should all be locked up for dereliction of duty to the people of Texas.
