Red states around the country hoping to fight Joe Biden’s vaccine mandates just got some very bad news.
The Supreme Court voted 6-3 not to block the health care mandates in place in Maine.
The three dissenting justices were Gorsuch, Thomas, and Alito.
Apparently, Not a Choice
It is rather shocking that the healthcare industry cannot figure something out for these workers who do not want to take the vaccine.
Every one of these health care workers were on the front line, working tirelessly at the height of the pandemic, and now they are just being tossed like yesterday’s newspaper.
Had all three of Trump’s appointed justices held the line, the order would have been blocked, but two of the three decided to side with liberals and Chief Justice Roberts, who seems to side with liberals far more than conservatives as of late.
In the dissent, Justice Gorsuch wrote, “This case presents an important constitutional question, a serious error, and an irreparable injury.
“Where many other States have adopted religious exemptions, Maine has charted a different course.
“There, healthcare workers who have served on the front line of a pandemic for the last 18 months are now being fired and their practices shuttered.
“All for adhering to their constitutionally protected religious beliefs.
“Their plight is worthy of our attention. I would grant relief.”
This is now the second time that Justice Amy Coney Barrett has sided against blocking a vaccine mandate.
In August, Barrett declined an appeal by Indiana University students to try to block the mandate put in place by the school.
Numerous red states have lawsuits in play, with the most recent being filed by Florida and Governor Ron DeSantis.
We expect all of these cases to head to the Supreme Court, but these early decisions make it an almost foregone conclusion that it will be losses straight across the board.
