The mystery of the murdered Tulane student in 2016 has finally been solved.
It was announced this week that Ernest Weatherspoon has been indicted for murder.
The indictment relates to the May 2016 murder of Thomas Rolfes.
Got Him
Rolfes was killed in an armed robbery gone bad.
Rolfes reportedly attended Tulane University and had returned to New Orleans to scout wedding venues with his fiancé.
Weatherspoon appears to have picked Rolfes randomly as a victim.
Rolfes was allegedly mugged and shot by Weatherspoon, with a single gunshot wound to the chest.
He was a native of St. Louis and had relocated to South Carolina for some time.
He also worked for Mitt Romney during his 2012 campaign.
According to NOLA.com, Weatherspoon had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and was serving probation.
He also has prior charges of illegally carrying a weapon.
In addition to the murder charges in this case, Weatherspoon is also being charged with armed robbery.
Liz Fried, Rolfes’ former fiancé, stated, “It’s mixed emotions.
“It brings up the sadness of the case.
“But we’re really happy that we’re finally closer to getting answers, and not living with uncertainty.”
She added, “I know that this is just the beginning of the road, and we will see what happens from here.
“But I’m just relieved that we’ve made it this far.”
At the very least, the family will get some closure knowing Rolfes’ alleged murderer has been caught.
