With materials already purchased and crews already hired, it would have made fiscal sense to finish the border wall project that had been financed.
That is not the way Joe Biden thinks, however.
Instead, he suspended the project, adding an estimated $2 billion to the cost, money that will be coming out of our pockets, not Joe’s.
Just Write the Check
There is no denying that we have a border problem.
Whether Dems like it or not, one of the most effective ways to get this somewhat under control was to allow Trump’s border wall to be completed.
Experts and border officials have stated many times that the numbers in the areas where the wall was finished had declined significantly.
However, now, there are gaping holes where the old fencing had been taken down, and immigrants are illegally entering the country in droves in those areas.
Instead of allowing the project to continue, Biden stopped everything dead in its tracks, canceling contracts to the tune of roughly $2 billion.
Oh, did we mention it costs taxpayers about $3 million every day to have the supplies sit there?
A Senate subcommittee report stated, “These interim findings show that the Biden administration’s efforts to stop border wall construction constitute significant waste of taxpayer resources.
“As of the drafting of this report the Biden administration has paid border wall contractors at least $2 billion and counting to not build the border wall.
“This $2 billion comes directly from DOD’s budget, and the Biden administration’s continued waste of these funds poses risks to national security and border security.”
In regard to the daily feels, the report further stated, “This means that the federal government is paying contractors on these seven projects $3 million per day to drive out to project sites and guard the unused pallets of steel and other construction materials.”
When Trump was in office, 450 miles of new wall had been built or put in place to replace the old fencing, with hundreds more miles of supplies bought and contracted to have built.
Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), who heads the subcommittee that conducted the report, stated, “It is absolutely absurd that Americans are paying contractors to guard metal gates that President Biden refuses to install because he wants to ‘study’ the wall.
“Stubbornly refusing to spend money approved for the wall is not ‘executing’ the law.
“It’s ignoring the law and ignoring the very real national security concerns posed by illegal entry across our very open southern border.
“For years I have called out federal waste, but the Biden Administration is literally ‘going for broke’ with this nonsense.”
Not only is Biden “going for broke,” but he is financially breaking this country.
