One of the biggest blunders of Joe Biden’s withdrawal plan was to give up Bagram Airfield.
Many questioned this in real-time, especially since Bagram would have remained in US control under Trump’s plan.
With the deadline approaching and it now appearing as though Americans will get left behind, Senator Graham (R-S.C.) insists that our military can and should take Bagram back.
We Can Take It Now
As the withdrawal plan was underway, it was announced that Bagram was not part of the evacuation plan.
This base, you may recall, was abandoned in the middle of the night, with our forces literally turning off the lights and leaving without notice to Afghanistan military leaders.
The decision had been made that it would have taken too many troops to maintain that base and still meet Biden’s withdrawal deadline.
General Milley even stated that Bagram was “not needed” for Biden’s plan, as it would concentrate on the evacuation taking place out of Kabul.
When questioned on this front, Milley had stated, “Our task given to us at that time, our task was protect the embassy in order for the embassy personnel to continue to function with their consular service and all that.
“If we were to keep both Bagram and the embassy going, that would be a significant number of military forces that would have exceeded what we had or stayed the same or exceeded what we had.
“So, we had to collapse one or the other, and a decision was made.”
Graham thinks this was the wrong way to go, stating, “Bagram was a great evacuation platform.
“It has multiple runways.
“It’s out in the middle of nowhere, and you can take that airbase tonight if you wanted to.
“If you had any will in the White House, militarily, we can take Bagram Air Base.”
Graham added, “They need to have a footprint to continue to get people out, and you can make the Taliban’s life difficult.
“But we are choosing to do none of that. This is a dark, despicable, and depressing chapter in American history.”
Trump specifically wanted to keep this base operational for the strategical advantages it would have given us in regard to both Russia and China.
Of course, there would have also been the benefit of still being able to keep a close eye on terrorist groups, but that will not be happening now.
Biden has given the Taliban the keys to the country and created a safe haven for terrorist operations by default.
