Governor Abbott has been under fire for his border policies.
Several notable Republicans have accused him of showboating but not really doing anything to help the border issue.
For instance, when Abbott started to bus migrants to DC, he was shredded for a “publicity stunt” because they were not really forcing migrants to go but only sending volunteers.
Well, Daily Caller, which is clearly a conservative-leaning outlet, challenged him on the effectiveness of his border policies.
Jorge Venture asked Abbott, “Do you view your agreements with the neighboring Mexican governors as a success? Because we’ve been spending time on the Mexican side and we’ve been documenting constant migrant groups continuing to come in.”
He continued, “The Mexican law enforcement was on the riverbank today because you arrived, but after you leave they will not be there anymore and then constant groups will continue to cross. Do you view that as a success so far?”
Abbott responded, “There’s only been one government official in the United States of America who has negotiated with and talked with Mexican officials about the border, and that’s me.
“Our president, the national leaders in the United States, they’re not reaching out with Mexican leadership to try to reach any type of solution whatsoever.
“The only one who has written agreements with signatures on those agreements is me.”
Despite the agreements @GregAbbott_TX has made with neighboring Mexican governors to stop illegal crossings from the Mexican side, our reporting from the Mexican the side showed minimal presence to stop illegal crossings, I asked the governor about this : pic.twitter.com/kQur6ucbL3

But, here is the thing… while Abbott responded, he did not answer the question.
When you consider that more than 10,000 migrants are crossing the border every day, even we have to question exactly what has been put in place has been successful.
Now, I don’t necessarily fault Abbott for that failure, as the federal government is not supporting this at all, but Abbott can hardly claim success when our border is being overrun.
