McConaughey Leads in Latest Texas Gubernatorial Polls

With Beto O’Rourke officially in the Texas gubernatorial race, polls are starting to fly.

Governor Abbott had some setbacks during the early days of the pandemic, but he seemed to have made a nice recovery as of late.

It turns out, actor Matthew McConaughey is still the favorite among voters in the state, as he is beating both O’Rourke and Abbott in a heads-up match in the latest Dallas Morning News/U of T survey.

Governor McConaughey

McConaughey had made some statements lately that I thought would have hurt him a bit more than they did.

It being Texas, his stance on abortion, at least I would have thought, would have hurt him a bit more with voters.

However, he recently came out against mandates, which obviously gained him back favor.

McConaughey is probably about as center as you are going to get these days, so that with her name recognition has him atop Abbott by eight points and atop Beto by 22 points.

The caveat is that McConaughey would have to declare a party affiliation, something he has been hesitant to do thus far.

That changes if McConaughey decides to run as an independent, as Abbott then wins with 37 percent to McConaughey’s 27 percent and O’Rourke’s 26 percent.

The one issue that McConaughey has not really spoken about is immigration, which will be a make-or-break issue.

He has managed to become a favorite in the race simply by whispering that he might be interested in entering the political arena.

McConaughey is very popular in the state, of that, there is no doubt at all.

However, he has managed to walk a fine line on some key issues thus far that will have to be clarified, which could dramatically change his polling.

If I were Greg Abbott, I would not exactly feel threatened by these results, at least not yet.

Let’s hear from our Texas readers… who do you want as your governor for the next term?

Is it Abbott? McConaughey? Colonel West? Chad Prather? Let us know in the comments section below.

      1. yes, he’s very wishy washy on most all subjects, like he’s trying to have everyone like him, he needs to make a Stand but I don’t think he will.

        1. I started earning $350/hour in my free time by completing tasks with my laptop that i got from this company I stumbled upon online…Check it out, and start earning yourself . for more info visit any tab this site Thanks a lot Here…….. http://works96.tk

    1. He is a staunch Democrat. He is for masked mandates, and hangs with the big boys from what I have been reading lately. Wonder who is behind his campaign dollars?

      1. Agree with you 100% Abbot has done a fantastic job in Texas, leave him alone to do more. McConaughey is a great actor, lets leave them both in their own best jobs.

  1. Early polls are worthless..they are like a personality test. Beto is a retard and McConaughey is a cheerleader. Abbott is a leader.

  2. I like Matthew McConaughey as an Actor but I’ve heard a few things come out of his mouth that make me question his ability to do what’s BEST for Texas, he almost sides with Hollywood to much, I tried to read between the lines but the way he says many things make me very cautious of him in Politics.

    1. I totally agree, lets NOT LET a DEMOCRAT from HOLLYWOOD sneak into TEXAS with GAVIN thoughts, BIG MISTAKE. SAFE BET is to keep ABBOTT. BETO is a TROLL!

  3. I’m not a Texan, I’m a proud Okie !! I live just 22 miles from Texas State Line. If I were to move anywhere else it would be Texas or Florida. That said, I keep up with their laws and policies. I pray that the people continue on their course and keep a STRONG governor, who fights for their citizens RIGHTS !!!! In my opinion, that is governor ABOTT !!!!! McCaughey is not the answer. He is not, open and honest about his affiliation and his actions appear unsettled !!!!!
TEXAS DON’T BE FOOLED BY A ACTOR !!!! YES, HE’S A ACTOR WHO IS VERY GOOD AT HIS JOB OF SELLING HIS ABILITY TO CONVINCE HIS AUDIENCE THAT WHAT HE SAYS AND DOES IS THE TRUTH !!!! SO YOU WON’T KNOW WHAT IS REAL !!! NEVER TRUST A HOLLYWOOD PERSON TO BE GENUINE !!!!!!
YOU NEED TRIED AND TRUE !!!
KEEP GOV. ABOTT, HE IS ALWAYS ON TOP OF THINGS AND WILL FIGHT FOR TEXAS AND THE TEXAS WAY OF LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Abbott has proven he is for the state of Texas and the U.S.A. ! McConaughey Is one that talks a great game but is he waiting to announce party because he is waiting to see who will pay him the most like a true RINO ? And Beto is a joke period !!

    1. Agree. Abbot is a leader Mc is a Hollywood actor not to be trusted. Texas needs a strong leader that will honor the Constitution. He has done a good job. No one is perfect

    1. I’m also not a Texan, but I would definitely stay with Abbott he knows what he is doing and for sure is doing what is right for all of Texas. We need more governors to follow his lead. We should be so lucky.

  5. Governor Abbott!!!! Beto is a crazy Democrat who hates Texas and our country!!! I hope Texans has more sense than to vote for him or a Hollywood actor who is also not capable of running the state of Texas!!!

  6. Governor Abbott has a proven record. I see the shady political atmosphere these days and we need to be extremely cautious. Remember anyone that can’t be very forward about what they stand for is hidden something.

  7. Governor Abbott for sure. Pro life, pro guns, pro choice on jabs, no boys in girls sports, no boys in girls bathrooms, pro wall at border, against shut downs, against mandatory shots for employees, and all in for God and Church.

  8. You give McConaughey far too much credit in his popularity. Far too much. I know of NO ONE that would vote for McConaughey, but surely there are some. You must have done the poll at UT where some think him cool. Dallas and UT are both WAY more liberal than most of Texas. Probably the only one of the candidates that McConaughey could beat is Beto, who is known to be an idiot to most of us. His anti-gun stance alone insures defeat in Texas. There are good and bad things to be said for all the republicans running, but, my bet, is that Abbott will win again.

  9. ABBOTT is what Texas needs. Been following McConaughey for some time, love him as an actor, but because he is not taking a stand on whether or not he is conservative or a Hollywood liberal, not getting my vote. He is a GOOD Actor so don’t be fooled AGAIN by a Trojan Horse syndrome. Remember moderate Democrats & never-Trumpers, Independents voted for Biden because they thought what an experienced politician with a moderate centrist view and now look where we are at. Are they having voter’s remorse now, polls saying that since Biden is a 38%/Harris at 26% approval rating. Keep Texas Red – Vote Abbott. McConaughey will turn Texas Purple – Guaranteed.

  10. I’m sure I’ve heard this, in some movie, but it fit’s the narrative… “Why would you change the players, in the middle of the game, when you have a WINNING TICKET”? Governor Abbot, has gone above and beyond, in his duty as Governor of Texas. He has done more for the State of Texas, to protect it from the Liberal Washington disaster. He has placed State Troopers, Game Wardens, and other State officers, on the border to protect Texas, and it’s residence from criminals trying to come into Texas.. Although McConaughey is a decent actor, he is NO Reagan, nor is he a Governor Abbot equal. To even think about replacing Governor Abbot, with the likes of McConaughey, much less that liberal nut Beto, would surely be a STEP BACK in Texas, for ALL it’s residents..

  11. Abbott needs to be re elected again so he can continue his fight against pos biden with everything and needs to get the border secured tight and finish the wall that PRESIDENT Trump started.

  12. I DONT CARE WHO IS IN THE RACE…I AM VOTING FOR our PROVEN LEADERSHIP…”GOVERNOR G. ABBOTT ” A MAN WE CAN TRUST…
