Thomas Jefferson will no longer preside over the hallways of City Hall in New York City.
Just as Trump predicted, the cancel culture has now gone after our Founding Fathers and early presidents.
Jefferson’s statue was removed without fanfare, and there were more than a few in the city that were not happy about it.
All About Context
The Jefferson statue was boxed up, removed, and sent to the New York Historical Society.
Erin Thompson, a John Jay College of Criminal Justice professor, stated, “Removing a monument without a public conversation about why it’s happening is useless. New Yorkers all need to talk about who we want to honor and why.”
The reason was that Jefferson owned slaves, but that statement far from tells the entire story.
Jefferson, literally from day one, was against slavery, calling it “moral depravity” and “hideous blot” against this country.
He believed that if slavery were able to persist, it would lead to the death of the new nation.
Nobody ever talks about the fact that Jefferson actually purchased slaves to reunite family members, in some cases.
He also made a huge divestment from slavery over the years and strongly opposed statehood in states that still heavily relied upon slave labor.
It is a reasonably safe assumption that due to Jefferson’s efforts and that of most of our Founding Fathers, slavery never would have ended as quickly as it did without their efforts.
We cannot help but wonder if it is the fact that Jefferson owned slaves or his other ideas that upset leftists so much in this country.
Perhaps the idea of liberty is just a bit too much for today’s Democrats…
So, what is next?
Do we demolish the monuments to our Founders and early presidents in D.C.?
Do we strip their paintings from the halls of the White House?
Granted, not everyone in the early days of our government deserves to be honored, but Jefferson surely does.
This is an utter disgrace and a very dangerous precedent being set about selectively editing the history of this country.
What do you guys think about Jefferson being removed from the NYC City Hall?
Do you see more Founders being erased from our history?
