The man who set Putin on his path to lead Russia just resigned his office.
Russian climate envoy Anatoly Chubais has reportedly stepped down.
He is now the highest-level official to go against Putin on this war with Ukraine.

Chubais has been in the Russian government for decades.
In fact, it was Chubais that placed Putin in the Kremlin in the mid-1990s.
He also supported Putin’s rise to power throughout his career, ultimately being named the envoy last year.
Chubais’ resignation was announced via a letter to his colleagues earlier this week.
Arkady Dvorkovich, who was a senior economic adviser to Dmitry Medvedev during his presidency and a deputy prime minister until 2018, also stepped down as the head of the state-backed Skolkovo technology fund last week.
It is no surprise that Chubais left the country, as Putin has made it quite clear how he feels about any domestic dissent.
Last week, Putin stated, “Any people, and particularly the Russian people, will always be able to tell the patriots from the scum and traitors and spit them out like a midge that accidentally flew into their mouths.
“I am convinced that this natural and necessary self-cleansing of society will only strengthen our country, our solidarity, cohesion and readiness to meet any challenge.”
In the United States, you speak out against a president, and you get a seven-figure media job.
In Russia, you disappear.
