Rashida Tlaib, the Democratic Representative from Michigan, probably should be allowed to be a landlord.
It’s a free country after all.
But, she’s also in Congress, and as a Congresswoman she was making an aggressive claim throughout the entire pandemic:
Rent forgiveness.
Many Americans would prefer not to work, so COVID is a reason to let them not pay rent.
If Tlaib can do that, these people would owe her a vote, right?
Well, it turns out that was the politician in her talking, not the landlord.
As a landlord, she kept every penny.
Throughout the pandemic, records show she made up to $100,000 in income on her rental properties.
The amount she gave back to be nice to her poor renters?
Zero dollars.
HAPPENING NOW: I'm joining Rep. @Ilhan Omar and fellow colleagues for a press conference on the Rent & Mortgage Cancellation Act. Our residents need help during this ongoing pandemic & this legislation seeks to provide that help to ensure our neighbors have the housing they need. https://t.co/RABr5VBpG4
