When Jen Psaki handed the dais over the Karine Jean-Pierre, she made it a point to mention her color and sexual orientation.
This was by design.
The thought process being that if you attack her, you are not attacking a press secretary but instead a black member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Rough Start
Listen, we all know the job of the press secretary is to cover for the president.
They are spin artists, at least for the most part.
Every now and again, we get a rare talent that does the job correctly, such as Kayleigh McEnany, but that is truly a unicorn in this business.
Jean-Pierre botched the very first question she was asked.
AP’s Zeke Miller asked her, “Do you view your primary role here as speaking for the president and promoting his interests?
“Or are you committed to providing the unvarnished truth to the American people so that they know what their government is doing on their behalf?”
She responded, “I actually think that’s hand in hand.
“I don’t think there’s – that there is any separation to that.”
There is actually a HUGE difference.
We accept that the press secretary for the White House will do everything possible to make the current Oval Office occupant look good, but they are also expected to tell the truth and not spin, but that is all we get from this administration.
Additionally, Jean-Pierre made sure everyone knew about her, literally trying to protect herself and her standing as a minority and a lesbian.
Again, this was to lay down the rule that if you come after her, you are not attacking the position but a member of these two demographics.
Brit Hume observed, “It’s a tricky business because the more partisan you are in your performances as a press secretary to protect a president’s political standing, the more you may have trouble appearing to be a neutral figure.”
Adding, “She’s got a hill to climb to establish credibility.”
While most agreed Psaki was better than Jean-Pierre, they were far from impressed by her.
One correspondent stated, “When you heard from Jen Psaki, you did not get the feeling she was speaking for Biden.
“She was part of a team actively making as little news and answering the least amount of questions possible.
“Jen Psaki successfully leveraged the job into a sweet MSNBC news gig, but she did more to promote herself than promote the president.”
Another agreed that they need to be tougher as a group than they have been on this administration, which is not good news for Jean-Pierre.
The journalist stated, “We all need to get tougher on holding the Biden team accountable, especially the cable and network TV reporters who get the majority of the questions during the briefing.”
This woman is now responsible for getting Joe Biden out of the gutter on approval rating, and she is failing miserably.
