The powers that be at Facebook are done sitting around their boardroom table and have issued a verdict on what to do with Donald Trump.
It was announced earlier today that the former president will remain suspended from Facebook for two years.
Facebook cited Trump’s “praise for people who engaged in violence” to support its decision.
No More Trump
Even though Trump is reportedly investigating the launch of his own social media company, not being on Facebook is a massive blow considering its reach.
When the review was ordered, Trump was still hopeful that his account would have been reactivated.
Today’s decision, however, ensures he will not have a voice on Facebook for the 2022 elections, possibly longer.
On the Trump ban, Facebook stated, “Given the gravity of the circumstances that led to Mr. Trump’s suspension, we believe his actions constituted a severe violation of our rules which merit the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols.
“We are suspending his accounts for two years, effective from the date of the initial suspension on January 7 this year.
“At the end of this period, we will look to experts to assess whether the risk to public safety has receded.”
Trump responded as expected, stating, “Facebook’s ruling is an insult to the record-setting 75M people, plus many others, who voted for us in the 2020 Rigged Presidential Election.
“They shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this censoring and silencing, and ultimately, we will win.
“Our Country can’t take this abuse anymore!”
In addition to the Trump decision, it was also recently announced that Facebook will start removing protections politicians currently enjoy, subjecting all of them to the fact-checking and scrutiny that was given to Trump that led to his suspension.
If the social media outlet holds true, it will be interesting to see how the outlet reacts to the rather misleading statements that have been made by numerous officials on the Democrat side of the aisle, including the White House.
They can start by dissecting the rather misleading statements made by Joe Biden himself regarding COVID numbers earlier this week.
