Trump Denied by Federal Court to Block Records Release

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her January 6 committee are all smiles today.

On Thursday, a federal court ruled against Donald Trump regarding his request to use executive privilege regarding White House records requested by the committee.

The committee is hoping to find something in those records that can link Trump to the events that took place on January 6 at the Capitol.

Crushing Blow

While this fight is not over, it is a pretty significant blow to Trump on this front.

Trump had first requested that Biden grant executive privilege back in October.

After Biden declined, Trump took his case to the courts.

This is now Trump’s second defeat on this front, but Trump has already stated that he is willing to take this all the way to the Supreme Court.

In issuing the decision, Judge Patricia Millett stated, “On the record before us, former President Trump has provided no basis for this court to override President Biden’s judgment and the agreement and accommodations worked out between the Political Branches over these documents.

“Both Branches agree that there is a unique legislative need for these documents and that they are directly relevant to the Committee’s inquiry into an attack on the Legislative Branch and its constitutional role in the peaceful transfer of power.”

The ruling was not a surprise, as Millett is a Barack Obama appointee.

As we have documented before, Trump’s record when going before a Democrat-appointed judge is abysmal.

That was quite apparent in her ruling, as she all but convicted Trump of organizing the riot.

She added, “There is a direct linkage between the former President and the events of the day.”

Trump is going to have to make his decision quickly, as Pelosi and her committee will pounce on this decision to obtain the records from the archives.
