Donald Trump is setting the stage for a massive showdown with Republican leadership.
As Senator McConnell (R-KY) gets ready to lead Republicans to the chamber to vote on the bipartisan infrastructure deal, Trump is once again challenging his leadership.
Trump called the bill a “disgrace” and encouraged Senate Republicans to walk away from the legislation.
Not Very Smart
There was a time when McConnell and Trump got along, but those days have long since passed.
When McConnell called out Trump and seemed to put the blame on him for January 6, a line was crossed that will never be forgiven by Trump.
On McConnell backing the bill, Trump stated, “Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill is a disgrace.
“If Mitch McConnell was smart, which we’ve seen no evidence of, he would use the debt ceiling card to negotiate a good infrastructure package.”
Trump also challenged if lawmakers even know what they are voting on.
Regarding the 2700-page bill, Trump stated, “They would have needed to take speed reading courses.”
He continued, “It is a gift to the Democrat Party, compliments of Mitch McConnell and some RINOs [Republicans in name only], who have no idea what they are doing.”
The former president also hinted that anyone voting in favor of this bill could lose his backing, stating, “It will be very hard for me to endorse anyone foolish enough to vote in favor of this deal.”
According to reports, 18 Republicans in the Senate support the bill, more than enough to allow it to pass without reconciliation.
