Earlier this week, it was reported that former President George W. Bush has stepped into the endorsement game.
Bush is hosting a fundraiser for Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) in Dallas.
The former president is trying to help Cheney fend off a challenge from a Trump-backed candidate for her House seat.
Trump has now responded to the announcement in a Trumpesque fashion.
Cheney and Bush
The connection between Cheney and Bush is an obvious one in the fact that Cheney’s father served as Bush’s vice president.
Cheney is widely credited for crafting the narrative that brought the United States into the Middle East in terms of a military presence.
He wanted a war… so he created one, and we have been there ever since.
After learning of the event to grab some quick cash for Cheney, Trump came out swinging haymakers.
He stated, “RINO former President George ‘Dubya’ Bush and his flunky Karl Rove are endorsing warmongering and very low polling, Liz Cheney.
“Bush is the one who got us into the quicksand of the Middle East and, after spending trillions of dollars and killing nearly a million people, the Middle East was left in worse shape after 21 years than it was when he started his stupidity.
“It ended with Biden’s most embarrassing in history withdrawal from Afghanistan, a total surrender, leaving $85 billion dollars of equipment and many young Warriors lives behind.”
Trump is backing attorney Harriet Hageman in the race, hoping to unseat Cheney.
While there are other House races Trump wants to help candidates win, this is by far the biggest.
Cheney has a prominent profile and a lot of establishment money behind her.
If Hageman and Trump are going to win this fight, they will need to get this down to a woman-on-woman race.
Even one candidate with a minimal draw could allow Cheney to hold her seat, which would be a disaster for Trump in terms of pressing his endorsement power.
This race will also more than likely draw battle lines between Trump and existing Republican leadership.
Anyone standing next to Cheney in this fight is going to make an enemy for life with Trump and his supporters.
