Since the guilty verdict was announced, most Democrats have avoided discussing the Jussie Smollett case.
The exception would be former Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.
Gabbard would prefer the court make an example out of Smollett to ensure an atrocity such as this never happens again.
Spit in the Face
As sad as it sounds, most Democrats hoped the Jussie Smollett hate crime was real.
It would have been used in footage throughout the campaign season if Trump decides to run again.
Instead, we now know it was all staged.
Smollett now stands to spend 15 years in jail for his role in the hoax, something Gabbard would like to see him serve every year of if possible.
Gabbard claimed that Smollett “spit in the face of real victims of bigotry.”
She added that he “should be sentenced to the fullest extent of the law to serve as an example and to send a very strong message to anyone who thinks about pulling a hoax like this in the future.”
Jussie Smollett was rightly found guilty by a jury of his peers. But he has not yet been sentenced. His lies are a slap in the face of actual victims of bigotry. He should be sentenced to the fullest extent of the law to serve as an example & warning to potential future hoaxers. pic.twitter.com/mHZVTUVBCj

I agree with her, but I doubt that is what will happen.
Smollett has blown this out of proportion so bad that even though he deserves to spend time behind bars, public perception may prevent that from happening.
The police investigators in the case even came forward to say they did not want to charge Smollett, but the fact that he kept lying to them gave them no choice.
My hope is that the judge does not just let him off with probation, which is what many believe will happen.
Even if he is sentenced to a year for each charge, it might just be enough to persuade others thinking about carrying out such a hoax to abandon their plans.
If he gets off with only a slap on the wrist, it will only encourage more hoaxes, as they would then have this case to point to as a precedent regarding sentencing.
Smollett deserves no favors here, as is quite apparent from his defiance throughout the process.
Put him in jail and make him pay for all the man-hours wasted on this hoax.
