Justice Clarence Thomas has been in the hospital recovering from an infection for the last week.
During that time, Democrats got their hands on texts from Thomas’ wife.
Now they are going on the attack, demanding that Thomas recuse himself from any cases involving the 2020 election and the January 6 riot.
What Are They Thinking?
The texts were apparently turned over as part of the January 6 Select Committee.
Ginni Thomas, Justice Thomas’ wife, was texting Trump’s former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, regarding the election outcome.
More than two dozen text messages between Meadows and Ginni Thomas were included in the more than 2,300 texts that Meadows handed over to the committee.
Ginni supported the idea that the election outcome should be overturned and believed that Trump won the election.
Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) stated, “At the bare minimum, Justice Thomas needs to recuse himself from any case related to the January 6th investigation, and should Donald Trump run again, any case related to the 2024 election.”
He even accused Thomas of being “increasingly corrupt” over the texts due to his wife’s political activities.
He added, “Justice Thomas participated in cases related to Donald Trump’s efforts to rig and then overturn the 2020 election, while his wife was pushing to do the same.
“He was the lone dissent in a case that could have denied the January 6th Committee records pertaining to the same plot his wife supported.”
Wyden continued that judges should recuse themselves if there is “even the appearance of a conflict of interest.”
He went on to say that “a person with an ounce of commonsense could see that bar is met here.”
Democrats have been after Thomas for years, and his wife may have just given them the ammo they need to take him down.
